Danny Fiszman got the big call right
IF going to the Grove can sometimes feel like a sanitised, soulless experience where the protagonists on the pitch feel increasingly removed from those in the stands, thank your lucky stars we’re not playing at Wembley.
Playing at Wembley in a cavernous bowl that isn’t ours in an area lacking the history (and quite arguably the charm) of N5. An area where the locals know nothing of the Arsenal and the Arsenal knows nothing of the locals. It would have been ten times worse.
Actually, don’t thank your lucky stars, thank Danny Fiszman, the Arsenal director whose death was announced yesterday.
It was he who fought so vehmently for us to stay so close to our previous home when others wanted to take us further afield. It was he who did so much to turn vision into reality.
And it is he who allows many of us to still tread the same streets that our fathers and sometimes grandfathers trod when they first went to see the Arsenal many years ago.
That means a lot.
Here-here. The Grove stands undisputed as Fiszman’s great legacy to the Arsenal. The atmosphere we create in it is up to us, let’s start on Sunday for Danny – a proper Gooner.
RIP Danny – a proper understated Arsenal man through annd through
Great sentiments Goodplaya
Couldn’t have put it any better. Well said. RIP Danny.
It seems extraordinary to me that the deal with Kroenke was done so close to the end for Danny. The only conclusion you can come to is that he hung in there until it was simply impossible for him to do so any longer. Hats off to him.
RIP
Agree – what an amazing legacy.
I’d support re-naming a stand or something in his name. Seems to fit the ‘Arsenalisation’ and also – if anyone deserves it it’s him surely.
Re: The shares – I’m sure someone as canny as DF would have found a way to avoid selling to Kroenke if he’d really wanted to. So my conclusion is that he was behind the sale (albeit that his decision was tragically hastened).
There are a lot of old stadiums in sports that get replaced by “antiseptic” new facilities, usually across the street from the old one, as just happened here with new stadiums for New York’s baseball and American-style football teams. But ask fans of a team that has moved out of the area entirely, like Wimbledon: It can always be worse.
@N7 Gooner…
Wrote this before I knew about the bridge – durr!
RIP mr Danny fiszman..i never knew you in person but over a million people cannot be wrong..for all you did for our club..may the lord receive you in his bosom..thank you for everything

The following time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I know it was my option to read, however I actually thought youd have one thing fascinating to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you can fix if you werent too busy in search of attention.
Nice post.Thank you for taking the time to publish this information very useful!I’m still waiting for some interesting thoughts from your side in your next post thanks!
