@Hazza1979 don't know what names... just don't want us to sell half the squad and only then buy... (like last year)

Are we the victims of a grand Spurs plan where we are forever in a 3rd place, trophyless comfort zone? http://t.co/AmZ4gLyB

@5mandefence @goonerboyblog agree that spirit has been greatly improved.

I dined out on Henry all week but we are nine points behind you know who

I THINK it fair to say my subconscious mind has well and truly dined out since Monday night on Thierry Henry’s return.

Over and over again it has replayed that moment. And why not? It was one of those moments that would have punctured any normality, even one where we were in the middle of a title scrap. A Chelsea supporting colleague said that it would have been like Zola returning and while a part of me wanted to point out that I considered Henry’s legend a little greater, I took his point.

It was the stuff of childish fantasy. The kind of story so many of us would have written in English classes at school had the teacher been naive enough to prescribe an essay subject sufficiently ill defined that Arsenal could be brought into it.

But there ain’t nothing more likely to bring one back down to earth with a jolt than the realisation that Spurs are nine points ahead of us. Now, nine points may sound like only a very mild Aprilesque collapse by our recent standards but generally speaking it is a fair whack.

In fairness to Spurs, they’ve done very well and being behind them perse is no great disgrace. It should also be pointed out that because of their failure to qualify for a second successive Champions League campaign last season (Arsene has managed something like 14 on the trot), they haven’t had to balance their league challenge with a serious assault (the Europa League does not count) on a European trophy.

That we are still in the Champions League should at least warrant some degree of credit when that nine point gap is looked at.

But the point is, I think, that we’re very obviously lacking goals at the moment and I can’t see any great reason not to bring in another striker if one can be found. He’s hardly going to “kill” Thierry Henry, to coin that horrible Wengerism most famously applied to Denilson.

In fact, from what I can see there is no player, young or otherwise, who is just a few games away from striking maturity and could be damaged by the arrival of another forward. Said arrival could hardly make Chamakh’s form any worse either.

So go for it Arsene. Handbrake off.

I think we should do our best to ensure reverse St. Totteringham’s Day comes as late as possible; this together with the F.A. Cup are our only chance of “silverware” this season.

  2. Wallace says:

re the two senior back-ups – Arshavin has had more of a run than Chamakh. i still think Chamakh could come good, but maybe only if, perversely, RVP

  3. Wallace says:

pt 2 …gets injured. i’d sell Arshavin. i guess the feeling is, anyone of Arsenal quality isn’t going to be available in january. Podolski has already said he won’t move now with the Euros so close. and any quality African strikers are probably in Africa right now. that leaves South America, and i can’t think of anyone who has come straight from there to the EPL and flourished immediately. Suarez, yes, but only after a few seasons at Ajax…

  4. Anonymarse says:

Bid £15m plus for Podolski and we’ll get him. Playing Champions League is hardly going to hurt his chances of staying in the German side. TH is great, but it’s a sideshow for 6 weeks. If we’re serious about this season we need one quality player up front and to get that in January you need to pay above market value. As for Sp**s, it would be good to get above them, but it would be worse to finish 5th, so target Chelski first…

  5. Si says:

Spurs have only played 3 of the top ten teams away so far and won none. Check out their fixtures for the next 5 weeks and expect that gap to come down hugely. Prob us to be above them when you see we’ve already played the top4 away this season

what fantasy are you living in???u seriously think wenger is going to sign ANY1…let alone a striker

look…samba..higuain/pato would be my ideal buys but im not even gonna waste my breath talking about it let alone say pretty please for AW to sign em…I KNO HE WON’T

again…until wenger leaves we are a Business…not a football club…until he leaves we either stagnate or decline…when it comes to our football anyway…profits might be a different story and then wenger will be laughing to the bank when he does finally fuck off!

success will only come after wenger leaves…no matter what he does!

  7. RealisticGunner says:

i dont know if you can handle it…depends how far up Wengers arse you are??

    but here it goes:

1)up to me…get rid of wenger send him far far far away…give him a statue…his shares in cash etc. or shift him upstairs onto the shareholders board
2)recruit alongside berkamp…paul lambert or owen coyle..basically a manager with BALLS…who isn’t arrogant..and takes advice…dont have to be a great scout like wenger and em….oh wait thats all wenger is good at
    3) get rid of the deadwood…WHAT YOU GUYS CAN’T see already is that whether denilson or bentfoot do well or not – WENGER WILL GIVE EM A CHANCE TO FUCK UP OUR TEAM EVEN MORE…trust me – so get rid of: denilson..for good…bentfoot…for good…djourou…for good…squallici…for good…even mertsacker…fabianski…chamakh…arshavin…park..rosicky
    4) then simply sign 3..4 players that would easily be the equivalent of two of those players above…i.e mertsacker+squallici+djourou= SAMBA
    fabianski=schwarzer (cover for szceney)
    rosicky+arshavin=HAZARD/HONDA
    chamakh+park=PATO
    5) finally over the summer when the seasons over EACH AND EVERY PLAYERS DOES INTENSE TRAINING ON DEFENDING FOR DUMMIES!

good to go!…pride restored…no more pussys or pathetic memories or pathetic slow decisions in letting players go who arent pulling there weight…no more excuses…manager like Coyle will not be a fergie or guardiola tactically but better than wenger and with a pair of manly BALLS…not afraid to tell a player about himself than rather protecting him like he’s some kind of baby

can’t wait for wenger to fuck off!..oh happy days it will be..mark my words!

  8. Osy says:

@Realistic: Are you realistic or delusional?! Here’s an idea, ‘lets pretty much sell the whole squad and buy an entirely new players’. Thank God wenger doesn’t listen to you punks. Cos if he does we would have sold RVP years back

  9. PD says:

Si, I have no doubt there will be a mini-collapse from the Scum coming but…..if they beat Wolves (more than likely) the gap will be either 11 or 12 if we don’t win at Swansea. Plus when looking at these gaps, people almost always assume it’s a given that when they drop points, it’s 3 points closed. It isn’t. We have to win our games. That is far from certain. If after the next two weekends (with both of us playing the Mancs next weekend) the gap is in double digits I’m afraid it is highly unlikely we’ll catch them.

I really don’t get the Podolski thing. Was good at Koln. Went to Bayern, flopped completely. Back to Koln. Doing well again. Is he a one club/small club player ??
I saw him live for Bayern & simply could not believe how poor he was. Looked like a pub player.

  10. PD says:

Massive result today.Well done Frimpong !!!
Simply got to take advantage tomorrow.
    Come on u Reds !!!

  11. PD says:

See my post two above this one. Sadly, today proved my point completely.
We have to be realistic : 6th is now just as (if not more) likely than 4th
