What would you take from the next four games?

The next four games…
Should be looked at by grouping Liverpool and Villa together and Chelsea and United together. Chelsea and United are both battling for the title at the moment and so every point we get against them doesn’t just mean one more for us, it also means one less for them. Liverpool and Villa are not currently fighting for the title and so the same does not really apply.

To that end…
As few as five points from the next four games could be enough to satisfy me. It would involve drawing with United and Chelsea (and thus denying them too) and getting one win out of the Villa and Liverpool games. It may not sound a lot, but that win and defeat against Liverpool and Villa would be better than two draws.

I’ve run out of time. Come on you Gooners!

  1. At least 6, win against Liverpool and Villa. We should get at least a draw out of United.

  3. Liverpool and Villa are games that I would be incredibly disappointed if we didn’t win. They should be games where anything less than 3 points is wrong, wrong, wrong. My Wolves supporting mate told me that last night was “2 points lost”- this is what Liverpool are now. And as they stumble and Cesc could do so much damage in just 20-odd minutes, Villa should be ripe for the taking if we turn up the heat.
I can see us trying to redress the balance against Utd after outplaying them and still losing last time and with Chelsea being without their best two players and at the Emirates, I think we can beat them as well. (If Drogba was there it would be a different matter.) But ultimately I’d be happy with 2 points from this pairing, as the title won’t be won against them, but instead in our ‘easy’ run after it.

  5. I would have to say I would be happy with 6 points mate. Three draws and a win tonight would be fine with me. Id happily replace a draw for a win for 8 out of 12 though :) COME on you GOONERS!

  7. Was thinking the very same thing this morning. For me, seven points is our target – I’m not confident about the Chelsea game, but two wins and a draw from the other three would be an excellent return.

Seven would be enough to keep us right in contention as our fixture list eases, and as injuries clear up. If one of the wins slips to a draw, that isn’t a disaster, in fact it is probably more important to deny Chelsea three points that take three off Villa tonight, for example. So, perversely, six (one win, three draws) could be better than seven (two wins, one draw, loss to Chelsea).

  9. Hate to burst you’re bubble Samuel but Drogba will be there :)

However I think realistically we are looking at between 6-9 points in these games. I believe Villa and Pool are very winnable fixtures. United at home should give us at least a draw (and if the ogre is not playing definately a win). Chelsea away is a tough one for anyone in the world. I hope we can scrap a draw!

  11. Spot on GP. Not losing to United and Chelski is crucial. Our form at home is good enough to think we will win the vast majority of our home games after this run and the tricky away games that remain would be Stoke and Sp*rs, apart from that i don’t see many problems.

Having said all that, a positive result tonight feels vital in getting this run of games off to the right start.

  12. TopGunPires on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:05 am
  13. Max: 9

Wins at home to United and Liverpoor and a win tonight at Villa should be doable. Stamford Bridge is a different proposition entirely.

    Min: 6

A win at home to ‘pool and three draws would be the absolute minimum.

  14. Tiki on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:06 am
  15. I expect no less than 8 points.
    A win vs Villa tonight.
A draw vs Man u or win.
    A win vs Liverpool.
    A draw vs Chelsea.

If we can come through this games with those points. We can trully win the prem

  16. VanDaManPersie on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:08 am
  17. It’s a strange one because getting four points from four draws would still keep us in it but getting four points but losing to Chelsea and Man Utd wouldn’t be good.

I think we’ll win the home games three to four points away. Which would be very good.

  18. Mike on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:09 am
  19. 7 points r enough one loss 2wins and a draw.

  20. edgar waudo on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:10 am
  21. I’m convinced we’ll beat either MAN U or CHELSEA. and also either LIVERPOOL or ASTON VILLA. That’s 6 points and 1 draw and we’ll loose a game. so 7 points is idle.

  22. JAX on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:12 am
  23. 8 points is the MINIMUM we must take from these games if we are serious about winning the title!! 2 wins against villa / Liverpool and 2 draws against utd and chelsea would be about par! anything more is a bonus! Dont forget Chelsea have a game in hand on us aswell so even 8 points could see us fall 7 behind chelsea if they win their games! not that that would be a disaster cos we can make that up in the run in but if we take anything less than 8 points then really we can forget the title!
5 points like some of you are saying is nowhere near enough sorry……………

  24. Daz on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:17 am
  25. 8 points will do the job nicely! Villa (A) Liverpool (H) will be points lost if we dont win. Man U should be a tough game on sunday but i’m confident the boys can get a result. Chelsea is the big one! I feel it is essential to come away from the bridge without losing. With our physical players (song, diaby & ben) returning and the form of one Cesc Fab, I think this match will have a different outcome to last years FA cup semi (bullied) and the reverse fixture at the Emirates (outplayed) earlier on in the season

  26. jordan on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:18 am
  27. win your home games and draw your away.

    so 8 points.

  28. Matt on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:21 am
  29. 10 points for me… win win win draw at chelsea at least

  30. Iversen on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:24 am
  31. 7 or 8 points will be good enough for me. Two wins (L’pool & Chelsea) and one/two draws against Villa/ManU. I feel we could lose one of these games and am prepared to accept that.
@Samuel, the game V Chelsea is at Stamford bridge and their best players are already available, Ivory coast having lost out of the Nations cup in Angola. It is a derby and, with focus, there is no reason we can’t impose our game on them and win out there. C’mon ye Gunners!!

  32. GoonerEris on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:27 am

  36. As long as we draw or win at Chelsea we are ok.

    Aston Villa-Arsenal 1-1.
    Arsenal-Manure 2-2.
    Chelsea-Arsenal 1-1.
    Arsenal-Pool 2-1.

  37. Danish Gooner on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:51 am
  38. I would definitely take the 5 point goodplaya proposed over 6 points gained by beating Villa and Liverpool, but losing to United and Chelsea. The main thing is to get through these games without dropping too far off the top. After these four games we have a relatively easy fixture list to the end of the season, so if we’re still within touching distance on February 11, then we have every chance to mount a serious title challenge.

  39. evilpiggie on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 11:57 am
  40. Gotta feeling we’ll draw with Villa and UNited, lose to CFC and beat Liverpool. Five points – and sadly, it will leave us too far adrift of Chelsea to have a realistic chance; I think they’ll win their next 4 points plus the game in hand over us to put them 10 ahead. Too much. But let’s hope…

  41. Family Enclosure Man on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 12:03 pm
  42. anything more than 6pts – provided we don’t lose to chelsea – would be good. hopefully the beating we took at emirates will serve to fire us up for the game at stamford bridge. think we’re more likely to take man utd & liverpool at home than get a victory at villa tonight. man utd are not a great team but it can take a while for a reptation to fade….shame we lost out on Smalling. my horse for a physically imposing centre back…

  43. more belgians please! on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 12:29 pm
  44. To win the league we MUST take 9 or 10 points from next 4 games..

    3 vs villa – a must
Home to United and Liv – we must win these home games to take league..
Chelsea away… tough game.. a draw would be great result…

  45. ben on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 12:30 pm
  46. All great comments but to say we can win the title we must win 3 out of the 4 games. The Chavs & Manure will win 3 out of there next four games and we must keep the pace up with them. If after the 4th game we can be in a similar position to now (top three with 1 or 2 points between all 3 teams) then we have a realistic chance of winning the title. this is a crunch game cos its the first and any result here would be good to into Sunday. We will see…..

  47. Franksta_Gangsta_Goona on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 12:39 pm
  48. I believe we could win all four games if the team focus, we owe it to beat Manure and Chelsea, this myth about Chelsea having a hold over us is going against a lot of fans belief is nonsense and I expect us to beat them, there is no reason why we can’t, we are getting players back from injury,Theo is due a good game,Rio will be missing along with Vidic,Fletcher needs to be kicked into touch that he is a thug and a shit player, and a red card would be nice,Chelsea’s old boys are starting to tire, and Liverpool well we have the Russian to beat them. I am confident we can do it.
How much humble pie will a lot of these wanky pundits have to eat especially twats like Collymore dogging, and a lot more.

  49. looneygooner on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 12:43 pm
  50. It’s crucial not to lose points in the big 3 clashes. We could get away with draws v Man U & Chelsea, but it would require wins against Villa & Liverpool leaving us with an 8 point haul from those games which would keep us well in the hunt. Any loss against Chelsea especially hands them the initiative again.

  51. Sam Le Man on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 12:47 pm
  52. 12 Points.

  53. Booland on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 1:06 pm
  54. As far as I am concerned, Chelsea are our ONLY threat to the title. We must not lose that. Simple.

The others I don’t care about because I feel they will still drop so many points to other teams. We must be careful though not to lose to any of these guys and give them some form of belief and momentum.

I predict that we’ll come through these games unbeaten. 4 – 12 points a possibility – I’ll accept this as long as we do not lose any of these games.

  55. Coolio on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 1:38 pm
  56. Most important is not to lose against either Utd or Chavski. My prediction is win/draw v Villa, win v Utd, win v L’Pool and draw v CFC, so 8 or 10 pts. Come on you Gooners!!!

  57. Dan on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 2:05 pm
  58. Will you be watching the Liverpool game this time?

  59. Larry on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 2:20 pm
  60. While I’m not suggesting we will definitely beat them, I think people are massively over rating Chelsea. Don’t forget a few months ago we were 10 points behind them, we have clawed that back even though the only “tough” game they had in that period was Man City.

If these games are tough for us, then they will be tough for Chelsea also, we will have them done and out of the way and Chelsea will have them still to play.

  61. gilf on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 2:54 pm
  62. WE WILL NOT BEAT CHELSEA.

Sorry, but if anyone seriously thinks we can beat Chelsea at their ground with Drogba playing and a smart manager like Ancelotti, with them fighting like hell for the title, is living in la la land. It’s not a “myth” that they have it over us, they DO in fact have it over us. The only reason we beat them last season was that neither Drogba or Essien were playing, and they had a poor manager.

This Arsenal team simply does not have the edge to beat Chelsea at their ground with Drogba playing, end of.

Best we can hope for is a draw.

We need to win tonight and against Liverpool. I don’t know if we can get away with a draw v. Utd, we should be able to beat them on our ground. If we can’t, we don’t deserve to win the league, frankly. They simply are not better than us this season.

I really don’t believe we’ll win the league anyway but if we’re going to really challenge for it, we at least need to beat Villa and Pool.

  63. marcus on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 3:55 pm
  64. We will win 6 of 12 points over the next 4 matches and find ourselves in 3rd place.

We will of course be written off by Sly Sports but have in front of us the easiest run-in that I can recall for 10 years.

And we will win the league.

  65. Good to be a GOONAH!! on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 4:12 pm
  66. Based on the maxim that you mustn’t lose to your closest rivals I would hope for a minimum of two wins (Villa & ‘pool) and draws against Man U & Chelsea. Although I think we’re more likely to beat United & lose to Chelsea. So at least eight & maybe nine.
The team is going to be looking more balanced now with players returning from injury & ACON duties. Get through this period with not too much lost and we’ll be in for an exciting finish.

  67. Jack king on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 at 4:23 pm
  68. lets take 3 against Villa today. that is certainly doable and should be the goal going into the game. i would settle for 1 pt if a repeat of the everton performance occurs.

they can worry about the man utd game this evening.

  72. as long as the son of bastard, aaron ramsey is playing, we are doomed!

not only he is so good in passing back the ball to the opponent(his original trademark – only this son of bastard can do it, no one capable of copying his consistency in this specialised skill), causing dangerous counter attack and goals

he is lately becoming a defender for the opponent like he did against villa, helping them to defend against rosicky

so playing this son of bastard, a.k.a. arsene favourite shit, not only meant we’re one player lesser in the miedfiled, also the opponent has an extra man in defence, midfield and attack

what really suck with this bastard is he is lika a captian in the middle of the field, directing his teammate to mark the opponent while he leisurely walking around the park

i’ve never seen an asshole who is paid millions for helping the opponent, only arsene would sign this bastard, must be arsene son of bastard

in the words of Arnie, ‘I’LL BE BACK’

Song and Eboue also in the squad

Diaby should be back for Chelsea game.

Somehow it made it seem as if they just turn up at Colney and do whatever they feel like (maybe they do!) and Emmanuel, what with all his childlike energy, went for a run outside. (Alex, being more of a laid back type of guy, just chilled with some vids).
